In order to protect wildlife and provide maximum security, movement in and out of the estate will be strictly monitored through 2 security gates with 24 hour access control. The primary access gate will be located on the main road (R40) on the edge of the town of Hoedspruit.
To compliment the existing resident wildlife, the estate will be well-stocked with game such as impala, zebra, waterbuck,wildebeest, giraffe, buffalo, rhino, warthog, duiker, steenbuck, hyena and smaller species.
Game viewing activities:
Hoedspruit is in the centre of Big 5 area, with Kruger National Park Orpen Gate and Phalaborwa Gate respectively 71 km and 74 km away. The new Giyaronde Gate, between Kruger National Park and the Transfrontier Park in Mozambique, will make access to Mozambique coastline much easier and shorter in traveling time.
Wildlife activities in the Hoedspruit area:
The Hoedspruit Cheetah Breeding Project is only 18 km away, the Mholoholo Rehabilitation Center at Kampersrus 28 km away and the Swadini Snake Park 16 km away. Timbavati and Klaserie Game Reserves are about 20 km away and the world famous Thornybush Game Reserve only 25 km away. In these areas, one can book organized game drives on open safari vehicles, or for the more adventurous, walking trails in Big 5 country can be undertaken with Professional Specialist Guides.
Elephant back safaris:
At Kapama Game Reserve, half day Elephant Back Safaris can be undertaken.
Scenic routes:
From Hoedspruit, the Panorama Route is easily accessible with sights such as the Three Rondavels, Blyde River Canyon (which is the third largest canyon in the world), Bourkes Luck Potholes, Gods Window, Worlds View, The Pinnacle, Lisbon Falls, Berlin Falls and the Graskop Gorge all within one and a half hour drive time from the estate. The town of Sabie, where one can visit the Mac Mac Falls, Mac Mac Pools, Horseshoe Falls, Bridal Veil Falls and Lone Creek Falls, is 173 km away with romantic old world Pilgrims Rest, one of the first mining towns in the area, merely 150 km away from the estate.
Water activities:
The Klaserie Dam where fishing and boating can be undertaken, is a mere 35 km from Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate. On the Blydepoort dam game viewing excursions can be undertaken through registered Tour Operators. For the more adventurous, white water river rafting can be undertaken on the Blyde River,in the Canyon or in the Olifants Gorge next to the Abel Erasmus Pass. Canoe trips can be undertaken on the calmer waters of the Blyde River below the Blydepoort Dam and on the Olifants River. A scenic game viewing and sundowners boat cruise can be undertaken on the Olifants River close to Phalaborwa.
Golfing:
At Hoedspruit, the Drakensig Golf Club, which overlooks the picturesque Drakensberg Mountains, boasts a 9-hole course. The famous Hans Merensky Golf Course is situated at Phalaborwa, which is 75 km away. This 18-hole course, where animals have the right of way, is situated on the edge of the Kruger National Park.
Accessibility:
Eastgate Airport at Hoedspruit received their International Operators License in February 2004. In the near furure and once upgrading of the buildings have been completed, international flights will fly direct to Eastgate Airport. The Limpopo Development Corporation has recently earmarked R 370 million for this project. SA Airlink has three scheduled flights daily to Hoedspruit. Two are return flights from Johannesburg International Airport and one is from Cape Town International Airport via Sun City. Phalaborwa, which is 75 km away, boasts an airport that has 5 daily flights from Johannesburg International Airport. |
